The National Park Service will begin a series of phased closures and lane restrictions on Acadia National Park's Park Loop Road starting October 15. The work, which includes culvert replacements and roadside repairs, will affect sections between the start of the one-way portion and Cadillac Summit Road, as well as between the Jordan Pond north parking lot and Cadillac Summit Road. These changes will lead into the park's annual seasonal road closures.
Beginning October 15 and continuing through November 16, a single lane closure will be in effect for all users on Park Loop Road. This particular restriction applies to the section between the start of the one-way section and Cadillac Summit Road. The one-way section of Park Loop Road will remain open for access. Visitors holding vehicle reservations for Cadillac Summit Road during this period are advised by the National Park Service to anticipate potential traffic delays and plan their travel accordingly.
Further closures are planned to commence on November 17. From this date, the segment of Park Loop Road located between the start of the one-way section and Cadillac Summit Road will be fully closed to all uses "until further notice" from the park. However, the National Park Service expects to temporarily reopen this specific section to all users for a short period, from November 28 through November 30.
Concurrently, also starting November 17, another temporary closure will be implemented on Park Loop Road. This closure will affect the section situated between the Jordan Pond north parking lot and Cadillac Summit Road. The National Park Service stated this closure is necessary to accommodate roadside repairs. During this period, Cadillac Summit Road will be inaccessible. Similar to the other closures, the park anticipates being able to temporarily reopen this segment of Park Loop Road, along with Cadillac Summit Road, to all uses during two separate windows: November 22-24 and again from November 28-30.
These phased works and temporary closures will precede the park's annual seasonal road closure. The National Park Service will implement its seasonal closure, making both Park Loop Road and Cadillac Summit Road inaccessible to motor vehicles, from December 1 until April 14.
Separately, the National Park Service reminds the public that vehicle reservations for access to Cadillac Summit Road remain a requirement through October 27, 2024.
